Overview of Sunway Lagoon

Sunway Lagoon is located roughly 25 kilometres outside of Kuala Lumpur city centre and is one of Malaysia’s most popular and extensive theme parks. The park was first opened in 1993 and forms part of the larger Bandar Sunway (Sunway City) township of Subang Jaya in the Petaling Jaya District of Selangor.  

Spanning over 88 acres, Sunway Lagoon is a one-stop destination for family fun with more than 90 attractions to explore divided across 6 different adventure zones. The park is home to Malaysia’s first Nickelodeon themed land and the world’s largest manmade surf pool. The Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach consistently plays host to world-class international performers and events.

What to Do

Enjoy the Fun & Kid-Friendly Theme Parks 

Sunway Lagoon is made up of 6 themed zones: Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Extreme Park, Scream Park and Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon. Things to do range between wet and dry-based attractions suitable for all ages.

Water Park. Travel to the American frontier in the Amusement Park's Wild Wild West and adventure down the Grand Canyon River Rapids.  

Amusement Park. Check out Malaysia’s largest water ride: the 11 storey high Vuvuzela, or immerse yourself in the Waterplexx 5D multi-sensory experience. Kids will enjoy the Waters of Africa; zooming head first down the Congo Challenge and Cameroon Climb.  

Scream Park. Equally as exciting, are the scream-tastic horror rides and live action games of Scream Park.  

Wildlife Park. Get up close and personal with over 150 species of animals in Wildlife Park.

Extreme Park. Test your limits in Extreme Park with heart-pumping activities such as ATVs and Go Karting.  

Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon. Families will love exploring the kid-friendly Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon for water playgrounds, rides and games all based around your favourite Nickelodeon characters.  

Cross the Suspended Pedestrian Bridge 

One of Sunway Lagoon’s favourite attractions is to walk along Malaysia’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge for a spectacular view of the entire theme park. Adrenaline junkies can bungee jump off the middle of the bridge for an additional fee.  

Watch Exciting Shows & Performances

Sunway Lagoon has a variety of daily entertainment across each of the park zones including multi-animal shows and dance performances.  

Sunway Lagoon Surf Pool is the ultimate event venue and plays host to a number of concerts and music festivals throughout the year such as the previous MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia.

When is the Best Time to Visit

Sunway Lagoon is open to visit is all year round. Temperatures range between 30°C - 35°C during the day and can drop to 23°C - 25°C in the evenings. Bandar Sunway also experiences the Northeast monsoon season between March - October where you may see higher chances of rainfall and thunderstorms.

How to Get There

By Car 

It takes approximately 25 minutes to drive to Sunway Lagoon from Kuala Lumpur city centre, depending on traffic. Cars can be easily rented from Kuala Lumpur. You can choose to take the Federal Highway, Damansara-Puchong Expressway, New Pantai Expressway or the KESAS Highway to Petaling Jaya.  

Ample parking spaces are available at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.  

Taxi or Grab cars are also a convenient option for getting to Sunway Lagoon.  

By Bus 

From KL Sentral Bus Station, you can take the Rapid KL Bus U63 or the U67 services to Sunway Pyramid which is located a short walk away from Sunway Lagoon. Buses operate between 6.30am - 11.30pm.  

Within the Subang Jaya area, you can use the BRT Sunway Line and alight at stop SB3, approximately 300 metres from Sunway Lagoon.  

By Train 

Sunway Lagoon can be reached by KTM Komuter Train – disembark at the Subang Jaya Station where you can catch a feeder bus to Sunway Pyramid stop.  

Using the Putra LRT, take the train to Kelana Jaya Station before hopping on the feeder bus to Sunway Pyramid stop.  

How to Get Around

On Foot 

The easiest way to get around Sunway Lagoon is on foot. Due to the extent of the park, this may depend on individual fitness levels. Wheelchairs are available to rent for elderly visitors.  

The park is separated into two main areas: Amusement Park and Scream Park located near the main entrance and the remaining parks in a separate area. These two areas are connected by a network of escalators or via the Suspension Pedestrian Bridge.  

By Bus 

Throughout Sunway City you can use the Free Shuttle Bus service to travel between the various developments: Sunway Pyramid Hotel, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Lagoon Entrance, Sun-U Residence, Sunway Medical Centre, Menara Sunway, Sunway University College (side entrance), Monash University Sunway Campus and Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall (under the lion head).  

Operating Hours: Weekdays 7.00am - 9.30pm; Weekends & Public Holidays 9.00am - 9.30pm.

What to Eat

You can find food outlets scattered throughout the theme park from on-the-go snacks and refreshments, to a selection of fast food and coffee chains, as well as the park restaurants Beach Bistro and Sagar selling both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

What to Buy

Within the Sunway City township, is the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall containing numerous retail outlets if you wish to shop while visiting Sunway Lagoon.

Where to Stay

Surrounding Sunway Lagoon are the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Pyramid Hotel and Sunway Clio Hotel. These range from luxury 5-star to 4-star accommodation within walking distance of the theme park.  

Aside from Sunway Hotels, there are a plethora of boutique and budget hotels as well as Airbnb stays throughout Sunway City to suit any traveller wanting to visit the area.

What to Bring

For long days out in the Malaysian sun, it is recommended to bring plenty of sunscreen, a hat and remember to stay hydrated.

What to Wear

It is recommended to wear appropriate swimwear when visiting the park for safety and hygiene. For women, bikinis are allowed. 

Malaysia is predominantly Muslim; therefore, it is best to refrain from wearing overly provocative swimwear. Sunbathing or swimming naked is strictly prohibited.  

It is advised to bring a towel and change of clothes, as well as comfortable walking shoes when exploring the theme park on foot. 

Things to Note

  • Complimentary WiFi is available when visiting the park.
  • Lockers are available for rent to store personal belongings.
  • Wheelchairs and strollers are available to rent inside the park.
  • Pets are strictly prohibited from entering the vicinity.
  • There are no ATM machines inside the park. The nearest is located in Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall.
