Overview of Bukit Tinggi

Bukit Tinggi is a small and bustling town located in Bentong in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. Located 55 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur and 800 metres above sea level, Bukit Tinggi bears very similar resemblance to the village of Colmar Tropicale in France. And that should be no surprise as the theme of the town is based off the French village itself!  

Local visitors enjoy visiting Bukit Tinggi for its chilly weather – the temperature typically ranges between 22 and 26 degrees Celcius. As it is located along the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway, the town is popular for its famous restaurants thus attracting visitors who are coming in from Genting as well. 

Where to Go

Parks 

Since Bukit Tinggi is close to the Genting Highlands, you can make your way up to the Genting Highlands Theme Park for a day of fun! Known as Malaysia’s best indoor theme park with attractions such as Ripleys Believe it Or Not and rides such as Busy Bugs and Reindeer Cruiser, families with children will find this place a dream! Also, ticket prices are quite reasonable. 

Another park you can visit is the Colmar Adventure Park, where you can try your hand at flying fox, canopy walk, and paintball warfare! 

Colmar Tropicale Village

The french-themed Colmar Tropicale Village is known amongst locals as Little France due to the reason that is is modelled after a French town, complete with cobblestone pavements, street performances, cafes and European-style architecture. The idyllic village sits amidst 80 acres of beautiful forest and at an elevated height of 2,600 feet above sea level.

Japanese Village

Visitors can even learn the art of Japanese tea-making at a Zen-inspired Japanese village which is only 5 minutes away from the European inspired Colmar Tropicale Village, the Japanese village boasts a zen-themed flower gardens, rock pools, koi ponds and a Japanese tea house, where you can experience an authentic tea ceremony. You can rent a kimono and take a few photoshoots drabbed in traditional Japanese garb. 

Rabbit Farm and Botanical Gardens

Other places of interest you can visit is the Rabbit Farm, home to over 200 rabbits, and the Botanical Gardens, where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. 

When is the Best Time to Visit

You can visit Bukit Tinggi year-round but keep in mind of the monsoon season. It’s best to visit during the dry season, which typically lasts between March to September. 

How to Get to Bukit Tinggi 

By Car 

You can self-drive to Bukit Tinggi, which will take about 45 minutes. If you’re driving your own car, you will need to prepare an entrance fee. 

By Bus 

You can also reach Bukit Tinggi by bus. There is a shuttle service provided by Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur bound for Colmar Tropicale, Bukit Tinggi. Take note that there are only a few schedules. They sell one-way and two-way tickets. 

How to Get Around

If you are self-driving, you can get around Bukit Tinggi by car. Alternatively, you can also opt to walk. 

What to Eat

French Cuisine

Bukit Tinggi is known for their high-end restaurants. If you’re wanting to try some authentic French cuisine, head on over to La Cigogne Restaurant. It is the ideal place for couples seeking a romantic and sophisticated night out with French fare. The restaurant is also halal-certified, making it suitable for Muslim guests. 

Local Food

If you’re wanting to try something a little more local, head to Leong Chee Hoong Restaurant. They are famous for their fresh river fish and because it is located along the original part of the village, rest assured their fish is freshly caught. Aside from their popular ikan tapah dish, they are also known for their tofu puffs.

What to Bring

Because Bukit Tinggi is located 800m above sea level, bring along a warm jacket to ward off the chill. Days can also get hot and humid so best to bring along sunscreen and a hat or cap to protect from the sun.

It is best to wear comfortable clothing and footwear, such as Dri-fit t-shirts and a good pair of sneakers or sandals. If you’re planning to do outdoor activities, appropriate attire and footwear should be worn to avoid injury.
