About the Location
Labuan Museum
Located in a historic pre-war building, the Labuan Museum presents the island’s rich history. Exhibits cover key eras such as the Brunei Sultanate, British colonial rule, World War II, and Labuan’s current status as a Malaysian Federal Territory.
Kinabenuwa Mangrove Ecological Park
Situated at the southern tip of the island, this protected mangrove forest is Labuan’s largest. The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna and offers a closer look at the island’s delicate wetland ecosystem.
World War II Memorial Park
This solemn site is the largest war memorial in Malaysia, where 3,908 soldiers from Australia, Britain, India, and New Zealand are buried. It serves as a peaceful and respectful tribute to those who lost their lives during the war.
Labuan International Sea Sports Complex & Marine Museum
A major venue for international sea sports events, this complex also houses the Marine Museum. Visitors can explore displays of marine species and maritime artifacts that highlight Labuan’s underwater heritage.
Traditional Water Village
Labuan’s traditional water village is made up of wooden walkways and stilt houses over the sea. Originally home to Brunei Malays, it’s now a multicultural community and a favourite spot for photos and cultural exploration.
Peace Park & Japanese Surrender Point
Peace Park is a beautifully landscaped garden symbolising reconciliation, built with contributions from both the Malaysian and Japanese governments. Just nearby is the Japanese Surrender Point, where Japan officially surrendered to Allied forces in Borneo at the end of World War II.
The Chimney
This 106-foot red-brick tower is one of Labuan’s most recognisable landmarks. Built in the 1800s, its original purpose remains unclear, though it is believed to be linked to Labuan’s coal mining history.
