Overview of Aquaria KLCC

Aquaria KLCC is a state-of-the-art oceanarium located below the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in the heart of Malaysia’s capital, an area known as the Golden Triangle. The 60,000 square feet space houses over 5,000 aquatic and terrestrial animals across a range of exhibits and biological spheres. The aquarium’s 90-metre-long glass tunnel is a star attraction where families can enjoy watching the many species of sharks, stingrays, fish and sea turtles swimming overhead. In addition to the 150 marine species, visitors can discover the weird and wonderful reptiles, amphibians and insects originating from habitats across Malaysia and around the world.

What to Do

Explore the Exhibits 

Explore the many aquariums at your own leisure. The 10 different exhibits cover a range of deep sea, freshwater and forest habitats; showcasing a diverse array of animal species such as sand tiger sharks, sea turtles, corals reefs, arapaimas, piranhas, frogs, insects and otters. Favourites include: Flooded Forest, Living Ocean and Evolution Zone. You may also enjoy watching any one of the daily feeding schedules across the exhibits.  

Enjoy the Glass Tunnel and Touch Pool

Highlights of Aquaria KLCC include the 90 metre glass tunnel with giant sharks and stingrays swimming above you as well as the Touch Pool exhibit where a hands-on experience with your favourite marine life awaits.

Join the Discovery Hunt 

Children aged 6 years and above can join the Discovery Hunt in search of clues across the oceanarium for a chance to win a mystery prize, all the while learning about the sea creatures they encounter.  

Dive with Sharks 

For scuba certified thrill seekers, Aquaria KLCC offers a one-of-a-kind experience diving with the 5 different shark species in their 2.5 million litre tank. Equipment is provided by the oceanarium and is available in single time slots every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. For non-divers, you have the Cage Rage experience where you can view the sharks through a specially designed cage instead.

When is the Best Time to Visit

Aquaria KLCC is open all year round and is the perfect indoor attraction to escape the tropical heat or shelter from monsoon rains. Temperatures in Kuala Lumpur usually range between 30°C - 35°C and during the Northeast monsoon season from March - October, can experience high rainfall and thunderstorms.

How to Get to Aquaria KLCC

On Foot 

Situated in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, Aquaria KLCC can be found in the concourse of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It is a 10-minute walk from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC shopping mall via the air-conditioned underground tunnel. The oceanarium is about a 15-minute walk from Pavilion KL shopping mall via the Bukit Bintang Walkway, a 1.1 km-long pedestrian bridge.  

By Car    

Aquaria KLCC is easily accessible by car with sufficient parking spaces available in both the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and Suria KLCC shopping mall. Alternatively, if you’re taking a taxi or Grab car, it is advised to set your destination to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre drop-off zone.  

By Bus 

There are several public buses that stop near the Kuala Lumper Convention Centre including the KL Hop-On Hop-Off city tour and the free Go KL buses following the Green Line. 

By Train 

Aquaria KLCC can be reached using the LRT and MRT railway. Either exit the rail from KLCC Station (KJ 10) and make your way on foot using the underground tunnel or exit at Bukit Bintang Station (SBK 18A) and use the Bukit Bintang Walkway pedestrian bridge from Pavilion KL shopping mall (15 minutes). Using the KL Monorail service, you can exit from Raja Chulan station (MR 7) and make a 10mins walk to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre using the covered pedestrian walkway. 

How to Get Around

All the exhibits in Aquaria KLCC are walkable. It is recommended that you reserve a minimum 1 hour 45 minutes to get the full experience. Last entry is 1 hour before closing time at 8.00pm.  

What to Eat

There are a few food outlets located in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre concourse where you can get a bite to eat. For a larger selection of food and cuisines, it is recommended to walk over to the nearby Suria KLCC and Pavilion KL shopping malls where you can find a range of international restaurants and fast food outlets.

What to Buy

Souvenirs can be purchased from the Aquaria KLCC gift shop. You may also want to continue your shopping spree in the nearby malls.

Where to Stay

In central Kuala Lumpur near the convention centre, there are a myriad of business and luxury hotels, which are within walking distance of KLCC. Mid-range hotels and budget hotels can be found clustered around the LRT stations. Cheaper accommodation further away from the centre, like Airbnb and hostels more suited for backpackers, are alternative options as the city is easily accessible by public transport.

What to Bring and Wear

We always recommend bringing sunscreen and a hat if you are out exploring the city in the sun. Wear comfortable shoes for walking around the many exhibits of Aquaria KLCC and surrounding attractions to make the most of the experience.
