If you are travelling between November and February and still want a beach holiday, Langkawi is usually a more dependable option than Perhentian or Redang, where rougher seas may affect transfers and resort operations. 

For travellers combining Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi, there is rarely a need to avoid a particular month solely because of the weather.

East Coast Islands (Perhentian, Redang & Tioman)

Between approximately November and February, stronger winds and rougher seas may affect ferry services, snorkelling, diving and resort operations. Some properties close for part of the monsoon period. 

Travellers planning an East Coast beach holiday should therefore book within the operating season rather than relying only on general rainfall averages. 

For fixed travel dates during the monsoon period, consider Langkawi or the islands around Kota Kinabalu instead. Choosing the right coast is usually more important than changing your travel dates.

Sabah

Sabah can be visited throughout the year, although conditions vary by location and activity. 

The state offers enough variety to build a rewarding itinerary in any season, from Mount Kinabalu climbs and wildlife trips to rainforest stays, diving and island excursions. 

Mountain climbs, diving and island tours are more dependent on daily weather and sea conditions. Wildlife, rainforest and cultural experiences continue throughout the year, although individual activities may occasionally be adjusted. 

If Mount Kinabalu is a priority, book early because permits are limited and prepare for changing mountain weather. Summit access depends on daily safety conditions, and no month guarantees clear skies.

Sarawak
