3 Days in Sarawak: Kuching, Semenggoh and Bako National Park
Best for: First-time visitors looking for city, wildlife and rainforest experiences.
| Day | Overview | Activities |
|---|
| 1 | Explore Kuching | Discover Kuching Waterfront, heritage streets and old shophouses. Try local favourites such as Sarawak laksa and kolo mee, with time to explore the city centre |
| 2 | Orangutans and Heritage | Visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre during a scheduled feeding session, followed by Kuching's heritage landmarks, including Tua Pek Kong Temple and the Old Courthouse |
| 3 | Bako National Park | Travel by road and boat to Sarawak's oldest national park. Walk through rainforest and coastal habitats, with opportunities to spot proboscis monkeys, macaques and other wildlife |
Begin in Kuching, where riverside walks, heritage streets and local favourites like Sarawak laksa and kolo mee offer an introduction to the city. From there, a visit to Semenggoh alongside Kuching's heritage sights brings opportunities to observe semi-wild orangutans during scheduled feeding sessions, although sightings are not guaranteed.
The journey continues to Bako National Park, where rainforest trails and coastal landscapes provide a different perspective on Sarawak's natural surroundings. Guided walks, return transfers, entrance fees and lunch are included in the day tour. As boat journeys depend on weather and tides, allow plenty of time before any onward flight.
5 Days in Sarawak: Kuching, Santubong and Stay at Bako
Best for: Nature lovers wanting more time in the rainforest without an internal flight.
| Day | Overview | Activities |
|---|
| 1 | Explore Kuching | Spend the day around Kuching Waterfront, heritage streets and local eateries, with time for museums or markets depending on your arrival |
| 2 | Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and Santubong Wildlife Cruise | Visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in the morning. Later, cruise through the mangrove waterways around Santubong in search of dolphins, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and fireflies |
| 3 | Bako National Park | Travel by road and boat to Bako for guided jungle walks, wildlife spotting and coastal scenery. Stay overnight inside the national park |
| 4 | Bako National Park and return to Kuching | Continue exploring Bako's rainforest trails and habitats before returning by boat and road to Kuching |
| 5 | Kuching and Departure | Enjoy a final morning in Kuching, with time for local food, shopping or sightseeing before your onward journey |
With 5 days, there's more room to experience Sarawak's wildlife beyond the city. After exploring Kuching, a morning at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre can be followed by a cruise through Santubong's mangrove waterways, with opportunities to spot Irrawaddy dolphins, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and fireflies. Both excursions require compatible tour schedules and transfer arrangements.
The highlight is an overnight stay at Bako National Park, allowing more time for guided walks and the quieter atmosphere after most day visitors have left. Accommodation is basic, and trails can become slippery after rain, but the additional time offers a more immersive rainforest experience. Returning to Kuching on Day 4 leaves the final day flexible for departure.
7 Days in Sarawak: Kuching and Gunung Mulu National Park
Best for: Travellers wanting wildlife, culture and a more relaxed pace.
| Day | Overview | Activities |
|---|
| 1 | Arrival in Kuching | Settle into Kuching and explore the Waterfront, heritage streets and local food scene at your own pace |
| 2 | Semenggoh Wildlife Centre | Visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre during a scheduled feeding session. Spend the rest of the day exploring Kuching's heritage attractions or relaxing in the city |
| 3 | Bako National Park | Travel to Bako for guided rainforest walks, coastal scenery and wildlife spotting. Stay overnight inside the national park |
| 4 | Bako National Park and return to Kuching | Continue exploring Bako's varied habitats before returning to Kuching, with the remainder of the day free |
| 5 | Sarawak Cultural Village | Discover Sarawak's cultural heritage through traditional longhouses, craft demonstrations and performances. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure |
| 6 | Santubong Wildlife Cruise | Spend a relaxed morning in Kuching before an afternoon-to-evening river cruise, with opportunities to spot dolphins, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and fireflies |
| 7 | Kuching and Departure | Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, last-minute shopping or sightseeing before departing Sarawak |
This itinerary begins with Kuching's heritage and a visit to Semenggoh before heading farther into Sarawak. At Gunung Mulu National Park, a 4D3N journey through its show caves and the Gunung Api Pinnacles brings together limestone formations, underground passages, longboat journeys and rainforest trekking.
The Pinnacles climb is the most physically demanding experience of the three itineraries, involving steep terrain, ladders and strict cut-off times. Previous trekking experience and good fitness are essential.
Flights to Mulu are booked separately, while an additional night after the return trek allows for a more comfortable departure on Day 7. Extra accommodation and transfers must also be arranged independently.
